New Year, New Kids! (Posted by Mrs. Schauer)

Well, here we are, at the end of the fifth week of school.  I simply cannot BELIEVE how quickly this year is flying by!  We are having a fantastic time in sixth grade Reading this year.  We are doing things a little differently in that we're not doing a whole class novel right off the bat, where everyone has to read the exact same book at the exact same pace.  Instead, each student is reading their own books, and we are sharing and connecting with one another like crazy!  We write letters back and forth to one another at least once a week, and we're really getting to know our books on much deeper levels.  We are definitely sure of one thing:  We love to read!  We will hopefully have our blog profiles posted within the next few weeks, and will start sharing what we're reading via our blog posts, but for now, here are some pictures of us doing what we do best....reading!

Dean, with The Hunger Games
He's seen the movie and is
listening to/following along
with the audio book.  He's
noticing LOTS of differences
between the book and the movie.
                                    Desa, following along with the
audio book for The Vile Village
                                    while Justin devours The Haunted

Peyton is reading along with the
audio book for Ninth Grade Slays. She's
                                    already finished Eighth Grade Bites.

                                    Here we have Hudson reading
                                    either The Hunger Games or
                                    Maximum Ride...he's reading them
                                    both!

I have a group of girls that are
going crazy for books written in
                                    verse.  This is Alyssa reading
                                    One of Those Hideous Books
Where the Mother Dies.  She's already finished
I Heart You You Haunt Me and Chasing Brooklyn

                                    Dylan is really enjoying following
along with Emmy and the Incredible
                                    Shrinking Rat.

It took him a while, but Damacio
FINALLY fell into his book, Lord
Loss, completely.  On the right is
                                    Cesar.  He just finished Crackback
and loves his new book, Skellig.

Alyssa loves Holocaust books. She's already
                                    finished Once, Then, and Now.
                                    Right now she's reading The
Boy Who Dared.  Next to her is Jasara.
She's already gone through like a dozen books.
I'm not sure what book she's reading in
this photo, but it might be Ophie Out
                                    of Oz.

Here's Kayla.  She's one of our
novel in verse fans.  She's about
                                    halfway through Heartbeat. She's already
                                    finished Chasing Brooklyn.

                                    There's Drea. She's reading a book
called Dairy Queen, about a girl who
tries out for the football team! She's also
part of the novels in verse crowd and has
                                    already finished several of those.

                                    Alexandrea is most definitely
a fan of vampire books.  She's
already on the fifth book in the
                                    Vampire Kisses series!

                                    Chris LOVES to read
                                    and is currently reading
                                    The Hunger Games.

Those feet belong to Frank.  He
doesn't like having his photo taken.
He's already finished a Gary Paulsen
book and is currently listening to/
following along with the audio for
                                     Heaven is for Real.

Katie is in the chair, and she's
on her third Judy Blume Book.
I think it's Deenie.  Next to her is
                                    Angelica, who is absolutely crazy
for the Flower Power Girls books.
                                     She's already almost finished with
                                     the third one, Oopsie Daisy.

Colton is crazy about Gary Paulsen.
He finished the first three books in the
Brian series and is just starting
                                          Brian's Return.

Brianna is buried in Lauren Myracle's
Twelve, the second book in the Winnie
                                         series.  She's already finished
                                         The Chosen One.
                                    Timothy loves dystopian fiction
He's reading The Death Cure. He's already
finished the first two in the series, along with
                                    the first Maximum Ride book.

                                    Here's Karyna.  She's also a vampire
fan and is reading the 2nd book in the
                                    Vampire Kisses series.  She's already
finished the first one, along with an
                                    R.L. Stine book.

                                    Ethan's reading a book called
The Maze of Bones.  He's already finished
a couple of Wimpy Kid books and
                                    Kickoff.

Jason has already finished several long
books.  He's reading a graphic novel
                                    on the computer.

                                    There's Brandon, behind my desk.
He's almost finished with Cirque Du
Freak which he's reading at home,
                                     and is also reading/following
along with the audio book for Eighth
                                     Grade Bites.

                                     Albert will read almost anything
he finds.  Here, he's reading a
                                     Goosebumps book.  He's probably
already gone through about 20 books.

                                     Here's Frank again...I made him
prove he really had a book under there.  :)
