ReplyDeleteHi Marisol - I'm honored to be listed as one of your favorite authors on your page. Thank you for reading my book! Have you read Chasing Brooklyn? Ava makes a short but sweet appearance in that one. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays!!
Marisol - What are your thoughts about this book? Did you find the haunting realistic enough? Did you feel sympathetic for Ava? Did you enjoy reading a novel written in verse? I would have liked to hear your thoughts and reactions about the book.
ReplyDeleteI am a sixth grade LA teacher from Ohio. I recently finished reading this book, too. I'm not quite sure I can recommend this book to my sixth graders because of the relationship between Ava and her boyfriend. I teach in a rural area with a population of students from conservative backgrounds. I always tell my students that they have to censor themselves...what is appropriate for one student to read may not be appropriate for another student to read.
I DID like this novel in verse, though. I will be recommending it to high school girls.
Keep reading and writing! :)
Great job, Marisol! I <3 this book!

Thanks Happy Holidays to you to :)
Wow...what a lot of comments you've gotten, Marisol...and even one from the author of the book! I'll save CHASING BROOKLYN for you--I have three copies of it, but they're always checked out. :)
ReplyDeleteMrs. Tyo...thanks for your insightful questions--Marisol is a little overwhelmed so I'll answer for her. :) I would definitely be careful about who is and isn't ready for this particular book. It is designated for high school interest level, but that doesn't mean there aren't kids in 6th grade who can handle the content. I send home a note at the beginning of the year explaining the maturity levels of the books in our library.(we serve through 12th grade)That way, they can let me know where they stand with regard to what their kids might or might not be ready to read. I agree with you 100% that it's about each individual reader. :)
hey... I really want to read that book you make it sound so.. good and I hope you like the book Far From you it's really good. (and hope to read the book)by.... :)
ReplyDeleteYa I really want to read this book now also
